varnateknikuni2Technical University of Varna was established in 1962 by a decree of the Council of Ministers of Bulgaria and a decree of the National Assembly.

The new university should provide engineers for shipbuilding, transport, machinery, electricity and communications technology needed for industrial complexes in chemistry, shipbuilding and ship repair, engine building, transport, electrical engineering, electronics and communications developing in northeastern Bulgaria.

Technical University of Varna

Initially, the university was established under the name of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Institute (Technical University of Varna) with three faculties: Mechanical, Electrical and shipbuilding. The first intake of students at the Technical University of Varna is in the school year 1963/64 on the following specialties: Internal combustion engines, Marine engines and machinery, Shipbuilding, Engine building technology, Electrical machinery and apparatus, Radio engineering, Telecommunication equipment, Automation and remote control and Automation of production.

The establishment of the Technical University of Varna practically rebuilt the Technical Department at the State University “St. Cyril Slav” Varna, which had officially opened its doors on August 18, 1945. The Technical Faculty had the following departments: Machinebuilding, Shipbuilding, Electrical engineering, Construction and architecture as well as Industrial chemistry.

With the changes in the social and political life in Bulgaria during this period, the faculty and the university underwent major reforms. In 1958 the last shipbuilding engineers, educated at the Technical Faculty graduated.
The first lecturers in Varna Technical University had taught students at the Technical School or were its alumni. Therefore it is believed that MEI-Varna is the successor of the Engineering Faculty of the State University of Varna.

Technical University of Varna

During the years of its existence, Varna Technical University from a small institute preparing engineers of regional importance, became the Technical University of national importance conducting the training of students in 23 majors. For 40 years of activity of the Technical University of Varna 28,976 graduates have been certified in the field of Engineering, Natural Science, Mathematics and Computing, Social, Economic and Legal Sciences and Teaching Technical science and technology.

2012

In 2012, our university iscelebrating its 50th anniversary. Anniversary celebrations will continue throughout the year and the culmination of the festivities will be from 4 to 9 October.

Campus

Currently, TU-Varna has buildings with a gross floor area of 67,542 square meters. All buildings are relatively new – built after 1968.

The University has three student hostels for 1450 students and two canteens. Student hostels are located approximately 750 meters away from the buildings.

The compact location of the university campus and canteens creates favorable conditions for living and working.

The University has modern sports facilities: a gym, a fitness center, table tennis hall, chess club and outdoor sports facilities (football, 2 basketball and two volleyball courts ).

THE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF VARNA IS LOCATED AT AN AREA OF 200 DECARES AND ITS CAMPUS CONSISTS OF 12 BUILDINGS.
TRAINING IS PROVIDED BY 155 LECTURERS HAVING ACADEMIC RANK (10 DOCTORS OF SCIENCE),67 DOCTORS AND 140 ASSISTANT PROFESSORS.

TU-VARNA IS A MEMBER OF THE EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY ASSOCIATION (EUA) AND IT IS THE FIRST BULGARIAN UNIVERSITY ACCREDITED BY IT. TU-VARNA IS A LOCAL CONTACT CENTRE OF THE EUROPEAN RESEARCHERS’ MOBILITY NETWORK EURAXESS. It IS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE BLACK SEA UNIVERSITIES NETWORK AND MAINTAINS A SPECIAL PARTNERSHIP WITH BOTH THE UNIVERSITY OF CONSTANTSA AND THE SEVASTOPOL NATIONAL TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY.

AT PRESENT, IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2015/2016, APPROXIMATELY 7000 FULL- TIME AND PART- TIME STUDENTS ARE BEING TRAINED IN 31 SPECILAITIES IN THE BACHELOR’S AND MASTER’S DEGREES,

AS WELL AS MORE THAN 100 BULGARIAN AND FOREIGN PHD STUDENTS.

TRAINING IN ENGLISH IS ORGANIZED AT TU-VARNA FOR APPROXIMATELY 600 FOREIGN STUDENTS.

Application procedures :

Foreign students are admitted without an entry exam. They can be enrolled in the course they choose, provided they satisfy the state specified entry requirements.

Please note: The minimum mean rating mark from specific subjects, taught at school SHOULD NOT be less than 62% out of the maximum value of the assessment system in the respective country.

For the Technical University these subjects are:

  •  Mathematics and Physics for the engineering studies
  •  History, English language, Literature etc. for the non-engineering courses

Copy of the Certificate/Diploma`s supplement marks from the secondary school, translated in Bulgarian and certified (legalized) by the Bulgarian Consulate/Embassy in the respective country with an Apostille stamp. The marks’ system should be clearly detailed in view of the five grade notation – Excellent, very good, good, mean/pass.
  5. Medical Certificate, translated in Bulgarian and certified (legalized) by the Bulgarian Consulate/Embassy in the respective country by the Bulgarian Consulate/Embassy in the respective country with. It should be issued at least a month before applying for the enrollment.
  6. A letter from applicant`s parents, where they state they will meet all applicant`s expenses during his/her stay in Bulgaria, translated in Bulgarian and certified (legalized) by the Bulgarian Consulate/Embassy in applicant`s country with an Apostille stamp.
  7. Copies of applicant`s passport (the page with candidate’s full name, written down in Latin, date and place of birth).
  8. 8.A certificate issued by applicant` s high-school/competent institution, where it has to be stated that the applicant has the right to continue his/her education in any university in his/her country. This document should be translated in Bulgarian and certified (legalized) by the Bulgarian Consulate/Embassy in applicant`s country with an Apostille stamp.
